On Place-Based Artist Pedagogies

Artist pedagogic research and cooperative innovations between Uniarts Helsinki and the Centre for Contemporary Art in Lagos, Nigeria.

On Place-Based Artist Pedagogies opens a path that teaches us about the material possibilities occurring beyond the given lenses of normative pedagogies and thinking in the arts. Let’s give them shelter in our own bodies, through careful reading, and let them teach us how to unlearn the hegemonic perceptual ecology. Give them the resonance to create other pedagogic ecologies.

This publication is part of the Nordic/Pan-African Studio project at Uniarts Helsinki. It was made possible by funding from the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. The Nordic/Pan-African Studio project was led by Daniel Peltz, Professor of Time and Space Arts at the Academy of Fine Art, and Oyindamola Faithful [Fakeye] Executive and Artistic Director for the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA), Lagos, and was part of a national network of projects under the Finland/Africa Platform for Innovation (FAPI).

The publication was intended as a pre-study for what has become a series of proposals for continued artist pedagogic research and cooperative innovations between Uniarts Helsinki and the Centre for Contemporary Art in Lagos, Nigeria.
