Stockholm NCP#12 2025
The 12th meeting of the Nordic Choreographic Platform in Stockholm centred around the theme “Creating within Shifting Cultural Policies”.
Hosted by the MA Choreography program at DOCH – School of Dance and Circus, part of the Stockholm University of the Arts, this intensive course offered a deep dive into the current state of cultural policies in the arts. The course addressed a highly urgent topic, especially in light of significant funding cuts to the arts across the Nordic region, Europe, and globally.
A key aspect of the course was the reciprocal relationship between cultural policy and artistic practice. How do cultural policies influence artists’ visions and production processes? And how can artists, in turn, shape cultural policies? These questions were explored in two parts: first, through a two-day laboratory held at the university, curated and facilitated by MA Choreography students from Stockholm; and second, through a two-day public event—the Cultural Policy Gathering —hosted at MDT and open to the wider community. The course fostered a strong sense of cross-border solidarity among dance artists, emphasizing the importance of collective action and shared dialogue in challenging times.
