Gabriele Klein, Dr. rer. soc.
Since 2002 she is Professor of Sociology with focus on Human Movement Science, Dance and Performance Studies at Hamburg University. Since 2022 she is also Professor of Ballet and Dance (Hans van Manen Chair) at the University of Amsterdam.

From October 2022, she has been invited to the LMU Munich for one year as a fellow in the “global dis:connect” centre. She has been director of the research group “Translation and framing. Practices of Medial Transformations”, deputy speaker of the graduate school “Collectivity in Urban and Digital Spaces” and PI of the graduate school “Virtuality of the Aesthetic”, Director of Performance Studies Hamburg and President of the Society for Dance Research. She is PI of the Cluster of Excellence “Understanding Written Artefacts” at Hamburg University.

She was a Guest Professor i.a. at the University in Bern, Switzerland, the ‘Mozarteum’ Salzburg/ Austria, the Smith College (USA), the University of Stellenbosch/ South Africa and Osaka City University/Japan.Her English book publications include books like “Dance (and) Theory” (2013, with G. Brandstetter), “Emerging Bodies” (2011, with S. Noeth) and issues like “On Labour and Performance“ (Performance Research 2012, with B. Kunst) as well as numerous articles like „Urban Choreographies”, in: The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Politics (2017). Her last English monography was titled “Pina Bausch’s Dance Theater. Company, Artistic Practices, and Reception” (2020). Her next book “Materialities in Dance and Performance. Writing, Documenting, Archiving” (with F.A. Raphaël Beau
Raphaël Beau is a performer-maker originally from France. His artistic practice ‘play and act from what is here’ is the ground from which he makes performances and facilitates workshops. He explores performing in diverse contexts with a will for the performance to open multiple ways to be present to a place. His master’s in Dance Performance at the Theatre Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki offered a context for his practice to grow and accumulate layers by being implemented again and again in various locations. The performance ‘here for a moment’ is his practice at work,integrated into a score, implemented in the presence of an audience. It attempts to capture both the fleetingness and density of being here together in this place at this very moment.

Rea-Liina Brunou
Rea-Liina Brunou is an artist living in Helsinki (born in Kolari in 1982). She works across dance, performance, writing and video. Nowadays work has led to think more and more about analogies of dance outside stages and live situations – still very much bodily oriented.

Sara Grotenfelt
Sara Grotenfelt is a choreographer, performance-maker and performer based in Helsinki. In her artistic practise Sara investigates the movement and placement of emotion and affect in the choreographic event. Lately her works have focused on tweaking the social and aesthetic conventions of the performance situation. She holds a master’s degree in choreography from the Theatre Academy of Helsinki (Teak) and a bachelor’s degree equivalent from The Danish National School of Performing Arts, Copenhagen, Denmark. 

Kirsi Heimonen
Artist-researcher Kirsi Heimonen is university researcher at the Research Institute of the University of the Arts Helsinki. Her background is in dance, choreography, somatic movement practices, especially the Skinner Releasing Technique, and experimental writing.

Satu Herrala
Satu Herrala is a curator and researcher with a background in dance and choreography. She is interested in how attuning to bodily coexistence informs ways of being, knowing and acting, and how collective action emerges from embodiment.

Anna Maria Häkkinen
Anna Maria Häkkinen is a Helsinki-based artist best known for her collaborative and multidisciplinary work as a choreographer and performer. Her work is asking after composition and play, body and durational somatic driven practises. Her most recent works have been presented at Takomo (2023), Pixelache festival (2023), Kiasma (2022) and Ehkä-production (2022). 

Laura Jantunen
Laura Jantunen is a choreographer, performer, and textile artist. Her foundations as a dance maker are movement material where the movement arises from active and detailed relation with one’s sensory experience and choreographing movement through the dancer’s internal processes. Currently, she is busy researching disorientation, idiocy, and intimacy as embodied states.

Heli Keskikallio
Heli Keskikallio is choreographer and dance artist based in Helsinki. She works with performance, dance and bodily thinking as sensuous ways of knowing and practices on ecological sensitivity and speculative somatics.

Sara Kovamäki
Sara Kovamäki on tanssija ja kuvataiteilija, jota taiteen mahdollisuudet muodonmuutokseen, leikkiin, poeettisuuteen, keskeneräisyyteen ja toivoon kiehtovat ja kutsuvat monitaiteisesti sekä paikka- ja tilannesidonnaisesti luokseen.

Anniina Kumpuniemi is a core member, dancer and choreographer in Dance Theatre MD since 1997. 

Laura Lehtinen
Laura Lehtinen (tanssit. maist 2014) toimii vapaalla kentällä tanssitaiteilijana sekä Taideyliopistossa kirjoittamisen ja suomen kielen opettaja. Hän työskentelee silloin tällöin näyttämöillä, kaupunkitilassa ja metsäpoluilla; kollektiiveissa ja yhteisöissä yleensä ohjaajuutta jakaen, välillä soolonakin esiintyen.

Karoliina Loimaala
Karoliina Loimaala is a choreographer, performer and dance teacher based in Helsinki. She is currently bouncing between Finland and Italy.

Vera Nevanlinna
Vera Nevanlinna on koulutukseltaan Tanssitaiteen maisteri, joogaohjaaja ja valokuvaaja. Hän on tehnyt pitkän uran tanssitaiteilijana esiintyen lukuisten koti- ja ulkomaisten koreografien teoksissa ympäri maailmaa. Tällä hetkellä Vera toimii laaja-alaisesti tanssin, joogan ja valokuvan kentällä.

Maya Oliva
Maya Oliva (they/she) is a dancer and choreographer from Italy currently based in Helsinki. Influenced by their nomadic background, Maya is busy with exploring the concept of belonging through focusing on transitions between fragmented movements, breath, voice, and different languages.

Hanna Pajala-Assefa
ENG: Hanna Pajala-Assefa is a cross-media choreographer and a doctoral candidate in the Performing Arts Research Centre at Uniarts investigating dance and choreographic practices in a mediated, interactive performance environment. Her long artistic practice in contemporary dance, choreography, film, and new media technologies underpins her research focusing on extended improvisatory practices.  

Kati Raatikainen
Kati Raatikainen on Helsingissä ja Kokkolassa työskentelevä koreografi, yhteisötaiteilija ja opettaja. Keskeisiä kysymyksiä hänen työssään ovat ekososiaaliset valtasuhteet ja niiden uudelleen järjesteleminen inklusiivisella ja saavutettavalla tavalla.

Mammu Rankanen
Mammu Rankanen studied in TeaK Dance Program 1988-1992. She is Dance Artist, Pedagogue , Doctoral Researcher and third year student in SOLU, Somatic movement education. She worked as a lecturer in Dance Program, TeaK 2009-2020.

Juli Reinartz is a choreographer and artistic researcher from Berlin. Since September 2019, she is a doctoral candidate at the Theater Academy at Uniarts Helsinki where she explores crip time as choreographic strategy and question to collective experience.

Lotta Suomi on opiskellut tanssia Iceland Academy of the Arts:ssa ja Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulussa. Hän työskentelee nykytanssin, esitystaiteen ja nykyteatterin parissa.

Iina Taijonlahti
Iina Taijonlahti on koreografi ja mediataiteilija, joka tutkii teknologian ja ruumiillisuuden suhteita posthumanismin aikakaudella. Taijonlahti työskentelee erilaisissa taiteellisissa kokoonpanoissa algoritmien, sensoreiden ja digitaalisesti tuotettujen visuaalisten elementtien kanssa.

Virva Talonen
Virva Talonen is a Finnish contemporary dance artist and choreographer. In her artistic work she is interested in the obvious yet obscure moments which reveal themselves only when coming absent.

Arja Tiili
Arja Tiili on pitkän linjan tanssitaiteilija. Tiili käsittelee aihelähtöisissä teoksissaan ihmisyyttä ja vallan määreitä suhteessa yhteiskuntaan jossa elämme.

Lydia Touliatou
Lydia Touliatou is a Helsinki-based choreographer and performer. She’s occupied with the evolution of a movement vocabulary, emerging from choreographic experimentations on her formal dance training in Bharatanatyam. She’s currently working as a research assistant “Terra-Performing” research project, funded by the Academy of Finland, with principal investigator Dr.Samir Bhowmik.

Emil Santtu Uuttu
Emil Santtu Uuttu’s works deal either with deep time, incessant change and pleasures or the role of memory institutions and historical research. Their works have been presented at URB (Helsinki 2016), NEAP (Rio de Janeiro 2018), Teaterträff (Hanko 2018), ANTI (Kuopio 2018) and Baltic Circle (Helsinki 2016 and 2021) -festivals.

Jan-Peter Kaiku
FIN: Jan-Peter Kaiku on toiminut Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulussa, erilaisissa hallinto-, kehittämis- ja esimiestehtävissä vuodesta 1991 alkaen. Tällä hetkellä hän on opetuksen kehittämispäällikkö ja hoitaa Tanssitaiteen koulutusohjelman sekä Koreografian ja Tanssijantaiteen maisteriohjelmien suunnittelijan tehtäviä. Vuodesta 1990 hän on toiminut Hufvudstadsbladetia avustavana tanssikriitikkona ja muun muassa toiminut luottamustehtävissä Taiteen keskustoimikunnassa vuosina 2001-2014. 

ENG: Jan-Peter Kaiku has worked in various administrative and managerial assignments at the Theatre Academy of Uniarts Helsinki since 1991. He is Head of Educational Development and works as planning officer for the BA in Dance art, MA in Choreography and MA in Dance Performance programmes currently. Since 1990 he has worked as a dance critic assisting Hufvudstadsbladet and among other things acted in a position of trust at the Central Commission for the Arts during the years 2001-2014. 

Simo Kellokumpu
FIN: Simo Kellokumpu on koreografi, esiintyjä, tutkija ja Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulun tanssijantaiteen MA-koulutusohjelman lehtori. Hän on toteuttanut vuosina 2013-2019 tohtorintutkintoon johtaneen taiteellisen tutkimusprojektin Choreography as Reading Practice Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulun Esittävien taiteiden tutkimuskeskuksessa Tutkessa. Vuosina 2020-2022 hän työskenteli Tutkessa vierailevana tutkijana ja toteutti väitöstutkimuksen jälkeisen taiteellisen tutkimusprojektin xeno/exo/astro -choreoreadings. Kellokummun monitaiteellinen työ tarkastelee ruumiillisuuden ja materiaalisuuden välisiä koreografisia suhteita avaruuskulttuurin, spekulatiivisen fiktion ja paikkasidonnaisuuden yhteenkietoutumissa.

ENG: Simo Kellokumpu is a choreographer, performer, researcher and lecturer in the MA in Dance performance program at the University of the Arts, Helsinki. From 2013 to 2019, Simo has conducted the artistic research project ’Choreography as Reading Practice’ at the Centre for Performing Arts Research at the University of the Arts, Tutke. From 2020 to 2022, Simo worked at Tutke as a visiting researcher and carried out the post-doctoral artistic research project xeno/exo/astro -choreadings. Simo’s multidisciplinary work explores the choreographic relations between corporeality and materiality in the intertwining of space culture, speculative fiction and site-specificity.

Kirsi Monni
FIN: Tanssitaiteen tohtori, Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulun koreografian professori Kirsi Monni on työskennellyt laajasti tanssitaiteen alalla koreografina, tanssijana, tutkijana, luennoitsijana, kuraattorina ja eri luottamustoimissa 1980-luvulta lähtien. Hänen oma tutkimusalueensa käsittelee tanssin ja koreografian ontologisia ja teoreettisia kysymyksiä. Monni on yksi Uuden tanssin keskus Zodiakin perustajista ja osallistui sen kehitystyöhön kahden vuosikymmenen ajan ennen kuin vastaanotti Teatterikorkeakoulun professuurin vuonna 2009.

ENG: Kirsi Monni (Doctor of Arts in Dance) is Professor of Choreography at the University of the Arts Theatre Academy. She has worked extensively in the field of dance as a choreographer, dancer, researcher, lecturer, curator and in various positions of trust since the 1980s. Her own research deals with ontological and theoretical questions in dance art and choreography. Monni is one of the founders of Zodiak – Centre for New Dance and was involved in its development for two decades before accepting a professorship at the Theatre Academy in 2009.

Sanna Myllylahti
FIN: Sanna Myllylahti on kansainvälisesti toimiva suomalainen tanssija, koreografi ja opettaja. Hän suoritti opintonsa Tukholman Danshögskolanissa ja Amsterdamin taideyliopistossa, josta hän valmistui tanssijaksi (BA) vuonna 1996. Myllylahti on luonut omia koreografioita vuodesta 1994 lähtien. Hänen koreografinen työnsä on syntynyt pääasiassa Alankomaissa, jossa hän asui lähes 20 vuotta ennen paluutaan Suomeen vuonna 2011. Hänen teoksensa sekä tanssijana että koreografina ovat kiertäneet laajasti monissa maissa. Taiteilijan uransa ohella Myllylahti on toiminut kouluttajana useissa yliopistoissa, tanssiakatemioissa, festivaaleilla ja ammattistudioissa ympäri maailmaa. Tällä hetkellä Myllylahti toimii Taideteollisen korkeakoulun nykytanssin lehtorina / tanssin BA-ohjelman johtajana.

ENG: Myllylahti is an internationally engaged Finnish dancer, choreographer and teacher. She completed her studies at Stockholm’s Danshögskolan and at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, where she graduated as a dancer (BA) in 1996. Myllylahti has created her own choreographies since 1994. Her choreographic work has been mainly produced during her time in the Netherlands, where she lived for nearly 20 years before returning back to Finland in 2011. Her works, both as a dancer and choreographer, have been touring extensively in many countries. Parallel to her career as an artist, Myllylahti has been working as an educator in several universities, dance academies, festivals and professional studios around the world. Currently Myllylahti holds the position as Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Dance / Head of the BA in Dance program at the University of the Arts Helsinki.

Nina Numminen
ENG: Nina Numminen has worked at the Theatre Academy since 2011 in the production services team and as a production manager since 2018. She has an MA in Performing Arts Management (M.A.M, Columbia College Chicago 2009) and she has previously worked in various production roles especially in the dance organizations such as Tero Saarinen Company and Dance Information Centre Finland. At the moment Nina acts as the chair of the board for the Zodiak Centre for New Dance background organization Zodiak Presents.

FIN: Nina Numminen on toiminut Teatterikorkeakoulussa tuotantotehtävissä vuodesta 2011 ja tuotantopäällikkönä 2018 lähtien. Hän on koulutukseltaan taidehallinnon maisteri (M.A.M, Columbia College Chicago 2009) ja on työskennellyt vuodesta 2001 moninaisissa tuotannollisissa tehtävissä erityisesti tanssitaiteen kentällä mm. Tero Saarinen Companylla ja Tanssin Tiedotuskeskuksessa. Tällä hetkellä Nina toimii kolmatta kautta Zodiak Uuden tanssin keskuksen taustayhteisön hallituksen puheenjohtajana.

Leena Rouhiainen
FIN: Tanssitaiteilija ja taiteilija-tutkija Leena Rouhiainen on taiteellisen tutkimuksen professori Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulussa ja Taideyliopiston tutkimusinstituutin johtaja. Hänen kiinnostuksen kohteitaan ovat somatiikka, tanssintutkimus, affekti- ja ruumiintutkimus, taiteellinen tutkimus ja fenomenologia. Viimeaikoina hän edistänyt erityisesti kokeellista kirjoittamista tekstuaalisena koreografiana. Hän on julkaissut ja toimittanut useita näihin aiheisiin liittyviä artikkeleita ja muita julkaisuja. Hän toimi Teatterikorkeakoulun tutkimuksesta vastaavana varadekaanina vuosina 2013–2023 ja vastasi akatemian taiteellisen tutkimuksen kansainvälisestä konferenssista CARPAsta vuosina 2019, 2021 ja 2023. Hän on toiminut myös Nordic Forum for Dance Research (NOFOD) ja Society for Artistic Research (SAR) hallitusten jäsenenä.

ENG: Dance artist and artist-researcher Leena Rouhiainen is Professor of Artistic Research at the Theatre Academy University of the Arts Helsinki and Director of the Research Institute at the University of the Arts. Her interests include somatics, dance research, affect and body research, artistic research and phenomenology. Recently, she has been particularly promoting experimental writing as textual choreography. She has published and edited several articles and other publications on these topics. She was Vice Dean for Research at the Theatre Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki from 2013 to 2023 and was responsible for the Academy’s international conference on artistic research CARPA in 2019, 2021 and 2023. She has also served on the boards of the Nordic Forum for Dance Research (NOFOD) and the Society for Artistic Research (SAR).

Maria Saivosalmi
ENG: Saivosalmi graduated from the Theatre Academy in 2004 with a Master of Arts in Dance degree. From 2004 to 2012 she joined Helsinki Dance Company, where she performed in works by Nigel Charnock, among others. For last twenty years Saivosalmi has worked extensively in the field of dance as a performer, choreographer and teacher. Her choreographic works have been performed internationally and co- produced for example by Zodiak – Centre for New Dance and Lithuanian Dance Information Center. Saivosalmi’s interest has been also in socially engaged art and since 2002 she has done long-term artistic work in different units of substance abuse treatment. Recently she has been collaborating with Lithuanian documentary director Vytautas Puidokas making large scale video installations. Their works were presented at CAC – Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius and as part of the Moving in November festival 2021. For the last two years Saivosalmi has been engaged as a lecturer in Dance at Theatre Academy. Her pedagogical interests reflect her artistic experiences and focuses on the poetics of the movement and working through and with affects and emotions.  

FIN: Saivosalmi valmistui Teatterikorkeakoulusta Tanssitaiteen maisteriksi vuonna 2004. Vuosina 2004-2012 hän työskenteli Helsinki Dance Companyssa, jossa hän esiintyi muun muassa Nigel Charnockin teoksissa. Viimeiset kaksikymmentä vuotta Saivosalmi on työskennellyt laaja-alaisesti tanssitaiteen parissa esiintyjänä, koreografina ja opettajana. Hänen teoksiaan on esitetty kansainvälisesti ja niiden osatuottajina ovat toimineet muun muassa Zodiak – Uuden tanssin keskus sekä Lithuanian Dance Information Center. Saivosalmen kiinnostus on ollut myös sosiaalisesti sitoutuneessa taiteessa, ja vuodesta 2002 lähtien hän on tehnyt pitkäaikaista taiteellista työtä päihdehuollon eri yksiköissä. Viime vuosina hän on tehnyt yhteistyötä liettualaisen dokumenttiohjaaja Vytautas Puidokaksen kanssa tehden mittakaavaltaan suurikokoisia videoinstallaatioita. Heidän teoksiaan on esitetty muun muassa CAC – Vilnan nykytaiteen museon näyttelyssä ja osana Liikkeellä marraskuussa -festivaalia 2021. Viimeiset kaksi vuotta Saivosalmi on toiminut Tanssitaiteen lehtorina Teatterikorkeakoulussa. Hänen pedagogiset kiinnostuksen kohteensa heijastuvat hänen taiteellisesta työskentelystään ja keskittyvät muun muassa liikkeen poetiikkaan, jossa työskennellään affektien ja tunteiden kautta ja kanssa. 

Jana Unmüßig
ENG: Jana Unmüßig is an artistic  re-searcher with a background in choreography. Her research interests linger in a field where the almost illicit, serendipitous meandering, languages of multitude converse with a range of ever changing topics, that crystallize through conversation with collaborators and differently structured worlds, and that find visible form most often through writing. Jana held a post-doc position at the Center for Artistic Research (Cfar) at Uniarts Helsinki, 2019/2020; participated as a fellow in the Berlin Artistic Research Grant Program 2020/2022 and has acted as a visiting researcher at the Performing Arts Research Center/Uniarts Helsinki since 2021. She works as a lecturer in choreography in the MA Choreography at Uniarts Helsinki.
