Hear our students – Selma Savolainen – Horror Vacui

Selma Savolainen Master’s degree concert

Selma Savolainen

The music we hear is inspired by the latin phrase horror vacui – fear of emptiness.

Horror vacui examines fear of emptiness, renunciation and discoveries. Every sound has its counterpart, shadow and echo from the previous sound and therefore real solitude do not exists.

Horror vacui tutkii tyhjyyden pelkoa, luopumista ja löytämistä. Jokaiselle äänelle on vastakappaleensa, varjonsa, kaikunsa edeltävästä eikä todellista yksinäisyyttä ole.

Toomas Keski-Säntti – pno,
Eero Tikkanen – bass,
Okko Saastamoinen – drs,
Tomi Nikku – trp,
Max Zenger, woodwinds

Dig Sibis Jazz

Things that are happening at the Department of Jazz at the Sibelius Academy.

“Jazz is not a what, it is a how. If it were a what, it would be static, never growing. The how is that the music comes from the moment, it is spontaneous, it exists at the time it is created. And anyone who makes music according to this method conveys to me an element that makes his music jazz.” -Bill Evans
