Rooted in Research Institute of Uniarts Helsinki, NfAR is open to visual, performative, literary and musical researchers, as well as humanistic art scholars interested in artistic research.
Who we are
NfAR is a dynamic network dedicated to the development and promotion of artistic research as a vital innovative practice. Over the past three decades, artistic research has evolved into a reflective discipline that critically examines its own methods and impact, deepening our conceptual, cultural, and practical understanding of the arts. Our mission is to support this growth by connecting researchers, facilitating dialogue, and highlighting the societal relevance of artistic inquiry.
Our scope
We are rooted in the Research Institute of Uniarts Helsinki and operate across all three faculties – fine arts, performative and literary arts, and music. We foster interdisciplinary collaborations and international partnerships and welcome researchers at all career stages who are interested in the processes, theories, methodologies, and societal implications of artistic research.
Community and collaboration
NfAR is open to visual, performative, literary, and musical researchers, as well as humanistic art scholars interested in artistic research. We also warmly welcome visiting scholars and professors from Finland and abroad to participate in our activities, creating a lively exchange of ideas and practices.
Our vision and goals
- Foster lively discussions and presentations involving artist researchers from diverse backgrounds
- Build networks that enhance career prospects, funding opportunities, and collaborative projects.
- Encourage dissemination of research through publications, exhibitions, and both medium-specific and interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Support education by integrating artistic research principles into Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral programs, and involving students and teachers in our events.
- Promote societal engagement by demonstrating the relevance and impact of artistic research on contemporary culture and society.
