NCP #4: Sámi aesthetic practices and the politics of land and identity in collaboration with the Sami University of Applied Sciences / Sámi Allaskuvla in Kautokeino / Guovdageaidny, Norway

Student’s from Uniarts Helsinki, Danish national school of arts (DASPA), Oslo national academy of the arts (KHIO) and Uniarts Stockholm took part to the meeting. The meeting was hosted by KHIO and carried out in collaboration with the Sami university Applied Sciences. The meeting consisted of artistic and social encounters, as well as contextual lectures on different aspects of Sámi traditions, art, culture and politics.

The contextual lectures dealt with themes such as the politics of arctic resources and conflicts, traditional knowledge, faith, religion, ethics and crafts as well as contemporary art, such as choreography, theatre and playwriting which explores and developpes the heritages of Sámi people. The students also got to trek to the snowy mountains and work among each other along the concepts of respons-ability and gift. They also got to visit the Beivas Sámi National Theatre and attended a zoom presentation of Dansearena Nord by Susanne Naess Nielsen.

The staff of the NCP programmes worked on their own developmental NCP+ project, on a practical theme of the master theses and an ethical theme of sustainability.

The lectures were given by choreographer Elle Sofe Sara, dramaturg, Siri Broch Johansen, and researchers Ragnhild Freng Dale, Lovisa Mienna Sjöberg, Inga Elise Påve Idivuoma, Solveig Joks.
